Meet the Team at SL Excavation Inc.

We’re Steve and Tyler, the faces behind SL Excavation Inc. With over four decades of combined experience, we bring dedication, passion, and efficiency to every excavation project. Here’s a bit about how we got started and what drives us.

How We Got Started

We’ve known each other for over 15 years, working together at a smaller company. We learned a lot from each other along the way. When Steve started SL Excavation, I (Tyler) was the first to say, “If you ever need a second excavator, count me in.” And here we are today, running a business together with two machines and one shared goal: making your project run smoothly.

Meet Steve

Owner & Operator

I’ve been operating heavy equipment for 28 years. I started as a loader operator in the logging industry before moving into excavation and construction. Over the years, I worked my way from operator to foreman to superintendent, and eventually, I started SL Excavation. I didn’t go to school for this. I learned everything in the field. There’s something about being hands-on that sticks with you. I take pride in keeping everything clean and efficient. Even though we put over 2,000 hours on our machines every year, they still look as good as the day they were new. When I’m not on the job, you can find me in my shop fixing and fabricating equipment or relaxing at my campsite with my family.

Meet Tyler

Operator

I started in the industry back in 2007. I worked my way up from the ground up, logging hours and gaining experience with every project. For me, education happens in the seat. The more hours I put in, the better I get. I take pride in the details. Whether it’s keeping my excavator clean or leaving a site looking sharp, I believe that good work starts with a clean machine. When I’m not on the job, you’ll find me at White Lake with my family in the summer, or up at my winter camp snowmobiling and skating.

We’ve been in this together for a long time, and it’s easy to stay on the same page. We operate the same way and share the same values when it comes to our work. We trust each other, respect our machines, and share the same drive to get the job done right.
